Piano Moving Cost Guide

Piano moving cost depends on three factors: the piano’s type, and access difficulty at both the pickup and delivery locations. Grand and upright pianos require different equipment and crew sizes, which affects the total, and stairs, elevators, or tight turns at either end are assessed separately since the two locations can have very different access conditions.

Grand pianos and upright pianos require different equipment and crew sizes to move safely, which affects cost — a grand typically needs disassembly (legs, lyre, and pedal assembly removed) and a padded skid board, while an upright moves on a dedicated piano dolly.

Stairs, tight turns, and terrain at the pickup location are assessed and factored directly into your quote, since a ground-floor pickup with clear access costs meaningfully less to move than one requiring multiple flights of stairs or a difficult turn.

The delivery location is assessed separately from pickup, since access conditions can differ significantly between the two — elevator availability, stage height, and hallway width at the delivery address are all considered independently of whatever the pickup location required.

Tuning after the move is available as a standard add-on at booking, and adds to the total if selected — pianos are sensitive to changes in position, temperature, and humidity, so many movers add tuning to bring the instrument back to proper pitch in its new location.
