Piano Moving Checklist

A few simple steps before moving day help make sure the move goes smoothly and safely — measuring access points, clearing the path, securing the piano itself, and flagging any difficult access in advance so the crew arrives prepared rather than discovering problems on the day.

Confirm the piano fits through every doorway, hallway, and stairwell along the route — including any tight turns partway through, since a piano can fit through a doorway but still get stuck navigating a narrow hallway corner.

Remove furniture and obstacles between the piano and the exit, including rugs that could bunch up underfoot and anything fragile within reach of the equipment used to maneuver the piano through.

Close and lock the keyboard lid, and secure the pedals, before movers arrive — this protects the keys and internal action from dust and impact during transport, and keeps loose pedal mechanisms from shifting.

Flag stairs, elevators, or tight turns in advance so they’re factored into your quote — this is the same access assessment used for both pickup and delivery locations on every move, so there are no surprises for the crew or unexpected charges after the fact.
